Should you upgrade to Windows 10?

Windows recently released its newest operating system called Windows 10.  Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to those users on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. However, the free upgrade is only available for a year which would end in July 2016.  With a free upgrade available, most would ask why not switch right away.

There are numerous items that should be considered before converting to Windows 10.  One of the main problems that some might find is that an internet browser based program that only functions on Internet Explorer would not work on Windows 10.  Microsoft replaced Internet Explorer with Microsoft Edge in Windows 10, therefore any programs dependent on using Internet Explorer would be inoperable. Another major issue you may come across if you switch is the function of Cloud Storage such as Microsoft OneDrive. There have been problems with OneDrive and only select folders syncing (not all folders visible) and identically named files/folders being added which causes OneDrive to not function properly. This can cause problems with the program that can be difficult to fix. There are many other items to consider before upgrading operating systems including program compatibility, features of the operating system and more.

If you are thinking about upgrading, make sure you do your research to check if the operating system will work for you and not cause problems or delay in business.
